We install residential windows for Buffalo homeowners, from single-room upgrades to full-house replacement projects. Our crews work on existing openings, modified openings, and new construction framing. Every project starts with an honest look at what your home actually needs.
New window installation differs from replacement work. Replacement swaps an existing unit for a better-performing one. New installation involves framing a fresh opening, which requires more planning around structure, flashing, and finish work. We handle both, along with custom orders for homes with non-standard window sizes.
New construction, home additions, and room remodels often call for windows placed into openings that didn't exist before. We assess rough openings, confirm structural framing, and take custom measurements before ordering any unit. Modifying an opening always starts with an on-site assessment, since header size and wall framing affect what's possible.
Not every project needs a full-house overhaul. Some homeowners replace every window at once; others start with a single bedroom, kitchen, or living room. We scope projects either way, coordinate trim and finish details, and schedule installation around your timeline.
Planning a window upgrade or new opening?
Drafts, condensation, and stuck sashes are common complaints we hear from Buffalo homeowners. These symptoms don’t always mean you need full replacement. An on-site evaluation tells us whether repair, partial replacement, or full window replacement makes the most sense for your home.
Air infiltration around sashes and frames often causes drafts, not the glass itself. Deteriorated weatherstripping is a common, repairable culprit. Cold glass surfaces feel drafty but aren't true air leakage. An inspection separates the two and identifies whether weatherstripping, caulking, or full replacement addresses your heating bills.
Condensation trapped between glass panes signals a failed insulated glass unit, which usually means seal failure and typically calls for glass or window replacement. Surface condensation on the inside of your glass, by contrast, often points to household humidity. Stuck sashes, rotted sills, and visible water damage also warrant a closer look.
Window style affects ventilation, natural light, cleaning access, and price. We carry real product samples and photos from past installations so you can compare styles before committing to one.
Double-hung and single-hung windows suit Buffalo's traditional housing stock. Many double-hung models tilt inward for easy cleaning from inside the home, a practical feature for two-story homes.
Casement and awning windows use crank hardware and a hinged sash to open outward. Compression seals on these styles often provide strong resistance to air infiltration, which matters during Buffalo winters.
Sliding windows work well where a wide opening suits a tight room, since the sash glides horizontally instead of swinging out. Picture windows don't open at all, but they maximize natural daylight and deliver unobstructed views for rooms where ventilation isn't the priority.
Bay and bow windows project outward from the home's exterior, adding floor space, natural light, and architectural character. These installations require custom sizing and a structural assessment, since the projection needs proper support and water management. See our custom window installation services for projects that fall outside standard sizing.
Double-pane windows cost less upfront and work well for most Buffalo homes. Triple-pane windows add an extra layer of glass and gas fill, improving thermal insulation and sound reduction, but they also add weight and cost. The right choice depends on your home, your budget, and the specific product line, not a blanket rule favoring one over the other.
Low-emissivity coatings reflect heat while still allowing visible light through the glass. Argon gas fills the space between panes and slows heat transfer compared to plain air. Frame materials matter too. Vinyl, fiberglass, and composite frames each include thermal breaks that reduce heat moving through the frame itself.
ENERGY STAR qualification is based on product performance, not pane count alone. The National Fenestration Rating Council label on each window reports U-factor, solar heat gain coefficient, air leakage, and visible transmittance. In Buffalo's climate zone, a low U-factor generally matters most, since it measures how well a window resists heat loss during our long winters.
Vinyl frames need little upkeep beyond occasional cleaning. Insulated chambers inside the frame improve thermal performance, and vinyl generally costs less than other materials, though quality varies between manufacturers.
Fiberglass and composite frames resist warping and expand less with temperature swings than vinyl. These frames hold up well against Buffalo's freeze-thaw cycles and offer strong dimensional stability over the life of the window.
Wood and wood-clad windows suit homes where matching original architectural details matters. Aluminum cladding on the exterior protects the wood from weather while preserving a traditional wood interior. These windows need more regular maintenance than vinyl or fiberglass.
Not sure which frame or glass package fits your home?
Buffalo’s older housing stock, from Craftsman bungalows to Victorian two-stories, often has irregular window openings, original wood trim, and masonry construction that newer homes don’t have. We treat these projects as genuine custom work, not a standard install with extra steps.
Older homes often have non-square openings and brick surrounds built around dimensions that don't match modern standard sizes. We measure each opening individually, match existing trim profiles where it makes sense to preserve them, and order custom units when a stock size won't fit properly.
Homes built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint, which puts window replacement under the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule. We follow lead-safe practices on eligible projects. We also install proper flashing to manage water drainage and check local permit or historic-district requirements before altering any exterior opening.
Not every window problem requires full replacement. We assess the frame, glass, and hardware condition before recommending a direction, and we explain our reasoning either way.
Worn weatherstripping, a broken lock, or minor glazing damage often responds well to repair. Repair keeps costs down when the frame remains structurally sound. Not every fogged window can be fixed without replacing the insulated glass unit, though, so we confirm what's actually failing before recommending a fix.
Condition Observed
Rotted sills, recurring leaks, and compromised framing usually call for replacement. An insert replacement fits a new window into an existing, sound frame. Full-frame replacement removes everything down to the rough opening when the existing frame has failed. Buffalo native Matt Kulhanek founded All Access Builders in 2003. Over two decades of general contracting experience in Western New York means we understand how window openings interact with siding, trim, and the rest of a home's exterior, not just the window unit itself.
Every project includes a written estimate detailing scope and cost, direct communication throughout the job, and a quality check before we consider the work finished.
We offer a range of window products suited to different budgets and performance needs. Manufacturer warranties cover the product itself, while our workmanship warranty covers the quality of the installation. We review both with you before work begins.
We’ve completed window installations across Buffalo and Erie County, from single-room replacements to full-house upgrades on older homes.
This Buffalo home had its original double-hung windows replaced with three new vinyl units set side by side. The old sashes were drafty and showed condensation between the panes, which is common on aging windows through Buffalo winters. The new units have colonial grilles to match the home's style and were fitted into the existing openings, then finished against the green exterior trim so the frames sit tight with no gaps.
On this home, a bank of three new white windows went in beside the front entry as part of an exterior refresh. Grouping the windows across the front wall brings more daylight into the main living space and gives the facade a cleaner, more balanced look from the street. The frames were sealed and trimmed to tie in with the new gray siding and the matching white entry door.
This addition was built with new-construction windows from the start, including a large gable window under the roof peak, two black-framed windows, and a pair of French patio doors opening to the yard. Installing windows during framing allows each opening to be flashed and wrapped properly before siding goes on. White trim around each unit contrasts with the navy board-and-batten siding and frames the views from inside.
