We’re a Buffalo-based hardwood flooring contractor, and we work with homeowners across Buffalo and Erie County on installations and replacements alike. Every project starts with responsible subfloor preparation, because a beautiful floor only lasts if what’s underneath it is sound. We walk you through solid and engineered wood options, explain how each performs in your specific rooms, and provide a transparent estimate before any work begins.
Worn carpet, dated laminate, or an unfinished room doesn’t have to stay that way. We guide you from that starting point to a finished hardwood floor, handling measurement, material selection, subfloor prep, and installation along the way.
Some services are part of our standard hardwood scope. Others, such as sanding, staining, or repair work on existing floors, depend on the condition of your home and are confirmed after an on-site inspection. We’ll always tell you which category your project falls into before we give you a number.
New hardwood works well in living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, hallways, and many kitchens. We measure your space, plan the plank layout, help you choose the right material, and install tongue-and-groove hardwood planks with properly finished trim. Our crew pays close attention to subfloor conditions before the first plank goes down, because layout and long-term performance both depend on a flat, stable surface.
We remove existing carpet, laminate, or worn hardwood and inspect what's underneath before installing your replacement floor. Subfloor damage, if we find any, gets addressed before new material goes down. We also handle transitions between rooms, baseboards, thresholds, and disposal of old materials. Your estimate will note which of these items apply to your specific project, since not every removal job needs the same prep work.
Hardwood installation often happens alongside a larger renovation. We coordinate flooring with kitchen remodels, additions, and whole-home projects, matching new floors to adjacent rooms and finishing trim carpentry as part of the job. If your hardwood project is part of a bigger renovation, our home remodeling team can coordinate the full scope with you. We also refinish, sand, stain, and repair existing hardwood. We confirm current crew availability for these services during your consultation.
The right hardwood for your home depends on where it’s going. Room location, the subfloor underneath, humidity levels, your preferred look, expected foot traffic, and budget all factor into the decision. We’ll walk through these variables with you before recommending a product.
Solid hardwood is milled from a single piece of wood, top to bottom. That construction allows for multiple refinishing cycles over the life of the floor, which means a solid hardwood floor can look new again decades after installation.
Solid hardwood suits above-grade rooms, and manufacturers specify subfloor requirements that we follow closely, including acceptable moisture levels and flatness tolerances. We typically install solid hardwood using a nail-down method, and we’ll review long-term maintenance expectations, including eventual sanding and refinishing, as part of your consultation.
Engineered hardwood pairs a real hardwood surface, called the wear layer, with a layered core underneath. That layered construction generally offers more dimensional stability than solid wood, which is why many engineered products are approved for installation over concrete slabs.
Engineered hardwood is not waterproof, and it is not automatically suitable for every Buffalo basement. Moisture testing and manufacturer-approved installation methods, such as glue-down or floating systems, determine whether a given basement or slab qualifies. Wear-layer thickness also affects how many times, if any, the floor can be refinished.
Red oak shows a warm, visible grain pattern, while white oak presents a slightly cooler, more subdued look. Maple offers a smoother, more uniform surface with less visible grain, which changes how stain absorbs across the floor.
Hickory brings more color variation and character, along with a higher Janka hardness rating that holds up well in active households. Species selection affects both appearance and how evenly a stain takes, so we match wood type to your room’s style and expected use. We’ll discuss other species with you if they’re available for your project.
Narrow-strip flooring creates a more traditional look, while wide-plank hardwood gives rooms a more open, contemporary feel. Stain choice ranges from light, natural tones to deep, dark finishes, and sheen options run from matte and satin to glossier topcoats.
If prefinished or site-finished options are available for your selected product, we’ll explain the tradeoffs between the two before you decide.
Hardwood flooring quotes depend on the materials you choose, the condition of your jobsite, total square footage, and how complex the installation is. We separate material cost from labor cost so you can see exactly what’s driving your total installed price.
Several variables shape your final number:
Wood species and construction (solid versus engineered)
Plank width and flooring grade
Total square footage and room layout complexity
Removal of existing flooring, if applicable
Subfloor leveling or moisture remediation, if needed
Stairs, which typically require more labor per square foot
Furniture moving
Finishing details, including trim, thresholds, and transitions
We review each of these with you during your in-home consultation, so your estimate reflects your actual project rather than a generic average.
A written estimate from our team includes site measurements, material specifications, preparation work, installation, trim, and cleanup. If removal and disposal of old flooring apply to your job, we’ll itemize that separately. We’ll also outline your expected project timeline and the warranty coverage that applies.
We don’t publish a fixed price-per-square-foot rate for Buffalo hardwood flooring, because material and labor costs genuinely vary by project. The most accurate way to get a number is a written, itemized quote based on your home.

Step 1
We start by inspecting your rooms, confirming measurements, and reviewing existing subfloor conditions. From there, we talk through wood species, finish options, style preferences, and how each room gets used day to day.
Step 2
Before installation, we check the subfloor for structural soundness and flatness. We test for moisture using a moisture meter, since excess moisture content or high relative humidity can damage hardwood over time. Any damaged surfaces get addressed at this stage, and we confirm whether your selected material needs to acclimate on-site based on actual conditions and manufacturer guidance.
Step 3
We follow the manufacturer-approved installation method for your chosen product, whether that's nail-down, staple-down, glue-down, or floating. Our crew establishes the layout, maintains proper expansion gaps around the room's perimeter, and staggers end joints according to standard flooring practice before completing transitions between rooms.
Step 4
Once the floor is installed, we add transition strips, baseboards, and account for door clearances. We run a final visual and installation check, clean the site thoroughly, and walk through care instructions with you before we leave.
Western New York’s weather puts real demands on wood flooring. Lake Erie’s influence brings humid summers, dry winter heating seasons, and wet footwear tracked in during snow and rain. Not every Buffalo property experiences these conditions identically, which is why moisture control matters on a per-home basis.
Hardwood expands and contracts as moisture levels shift. Uneven moisture exposure can cause gaps to open between boards, cupping along plank edges, or buckling in more severe cases.
Proper moisture evaluation before installation, an appropriate subfloor, correct acclimation decisions, and adequate expansion clearances around the room’s perimeter all reduce this risk. We address each of these during the preparation stage rather than treating them as an afterthought.
Older Buffalo homes often come with their own quirks: uneven subfloors, older framing, existing thresholds, and historic trim details. We assess subfloor flatness carefully in these homes and work to match new hardwood, often narrow-strip or oak flooring, to the home’s existing architectural character.
Moisture exposure varies a great deal by room. Basements sit on concrete slabs and carry inherent moisture risk, kitchens deal with spills, and entryways see heavy foot traffic from kids and pets.
Engineered hardwood can work in some below-grade spaces, but only with the right product and moisture management in place. In rooms with consistent water exposure, tile or luxury vinyl plank is often the more practical choice.
Our hardwood installation work draws on the same construction experience we bring to every project across Buffalo. We’re a family-owned company, established in 2003 by Buffalo native Matt Kulhanek, and we run our jobs with in-house crews, written estimates, and documented warranties.
Matt Kulhanek founded our company in 2003, and we’ve built our reputation on residential construction work throughout the region ever since. Experience across the company runs deep, though not every crew member brings the same tenure to hardwood-specific installation, and we staff each project according to the skills it requires.
Our flooring crews work directly for us, not as subcontractors. That setup means consistent communication from your first estimate through your final walkthrough, careful subfloor preparation, accurate plank alignment, clean transitions between rooms, and finished trim carpentry.
You’ll receive a written scope of work with pricing explained upfront. We schedule your project, keep you updated as it progresses, and review exactly what your warranty covers once your floor is complete.
These projects show the kind of hardwood work we do for homeowners across the region, from new installations to full replacements. Every photo comes from a real job, so you can see how the finished floor looks in a home like yours.
This whole-home project carried natural hardwood from the hallway into the formal dining room, framed by a darker inlay border that follows the room’s outline. The hardwood meets a stone tile entry at the base of the staircase, so the transition was planned to sit flush at the same height with a clean edge. The boards run in one direction through the archway to keep the rooms visually connected, and the stair treads were finished to match the floor.
In this living room renovation, the old flooring came out and a continuous wood plank floor went in across the full length of the open space. Running the planks lengthwise makes the long room feel more open and avoids breaks at the far wall. New baseboard was installed after the floor so the edges are covered cleanly along every wall and window wall.

These answers cover the questions we hear most often from homeowners planning a hardwood project.
Cost depends on your chosen wood species, square footage, installation complexity, and subfloor preparation needs. We don’t publish a flat per-square-foot rate because every project differs. A written, itemized estimate gives you an accurate number for your specific home.
It depends on your room’s location, subfloor, and how well you control indoor humidity. Solid hardwood offers more refinishing cycles over time, while engineered hardwood often provides better dimensional stability and broader subfloor compatibility. We’ll recommend a specific product based on your room’s conditions.
Timeline depends on square footage, whether old flooring needs removal, subfloor preparation needs, your chosen material, and the installation method. We don’t offer a universal turnaround guarantee, but we’ll give you a realistic schedule once we’ve assessed your project.
Some engineered hardwood products are approved for installation over concrete, provided moisture testing confirms acceptable conditions and the installation follows manufacturer-approved methods. Below-grade installation always requires a site assessment first.
Harder wood species like hickory or oak hold up well against everyday wear, and a matte finish tends to hide minor scratches better than a high-gloss topcoat. No hardwood floor is fully scratch-proof, so we’ll set realistic expectations based on your household.
We can get close by matching wood species, board width, and stain tone, and we’ll pull samples for on-site comparison. We can’t guarantee an invisible match, especially with older flooring that has aged or faded over time.
Yes. We handle removal of old flooring, evaluate the subfloor underneath, and complete necessary preparation. These items appear as part of your itemized estimate.
Keep indoor humidity as stable as possible, use entry mats to catch snow and slush, remove standing water promptly, and clean with soft tools and manufacturer-recommended products. These habits reduce the moisture swings that cause wood movement.
